➀ Function
Good, authentic design stays focused on the essentials. Purpose, clarity, honesty, usefulness, longevity and aesthetics are decisive to the quality of any design solution.
➁ Reduction
Reduction is analyzing and prioritizing what is really needed and cutting away everything that distracts. It can mean simplifying complex information into a clear and powerful message, or creating an impactful packaging design with as little components as possible.
➂ Responsibility
Design makes an important contribution to the preservation of the environment. We have a responsibility to design not just for a product’s use but for its end of life, as well. Using materials that can be repurposed, recycled, or become a part of healthy soil in a home compost pile. Utilizing processes and emerging technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of each project is something i regard mandatory — regardless of its nature or medium. The possibilities are all there and the shift is already in motion.
